Why are dental hygiene treatments important?
In order to preserve our oral health, and the beauty of our smiles, it is important to have good tooth care at home and get dental hygiene treatments as well. Professional dental hygiene treatments are performed by specially trained hygienists. During these treatments, the dental hygienist completely removes any plaque and tartar, and gives you counsel on how you can best tend to your dental hygiene.
Plaque deposition begins immediately after brushing your teeth. If the plaque doesn’t get removed, it turns into tartar, which cannot be removed using methods that are available at home. Dental tartar isn’t only a cosmetic issue, it can induce serious periodontal diseases if isn’t removed in time.
What methods do we use in our dental hygienic treatments?
Perfect cleanliness is achieved in two steps: ultrasonic tartar removal and Air-Brush salt polishing. During tartar removal (depuration) rougher plaques and bigger granules can be removed from the teeth. Salt polishing completely removes discolorations. Professional oral hygienic procedures don’t just mean tartar-removal. We also have to eliminate all tartar retention factors.
After the ultrasonic tartar removal, the dental hygienist polishes the teeth using a soft bristle brush and some special polishing paste. In difficult-to-reach places, an air polisher is used, which blows tiny powder grains against the teeth to remove small deposits. This creates a smooth surface that is more resistant to plaque formation. Depending on how stained our teeth and gums are, the procedure takes about 20-40 minutes, and it doesn’t require any form of anesthesia, because these methods are completely painless.
It is recommended to use dental hygienic treatments at least twice a year, so our teeth and periodontium can remain healthy.
